What Happens During CoolSculpting?

Stubborn fat areas, like “muffin tops” and “love handles,” usually do not respond well to diet. That’s particularly true among men, because fat cells are much denser in this part of the body than they are elsewhere. Furthermore, exercise may make these areas look even worse, because the muscle develops and pushes out the fat.

Until 2010, liposuction was the only option for individuals who wanted this fat removed. Even in CoolSculpting’s earlier days, the procedure was not as effective as it could be. Fortunately, today’s cryolipolysis is more comfortable, faster, and more effective than ever before.

Initial Consultation

One of the most difficult parts in the entire process is finding a cosmetic surgeon who offers CoolSculpting, has advanced training in cryolipolysis, and has a very good bedside manner. There are many very good doctors who have one or even two of these qualities, but not all three.

At your appointment, Dr. Fiorillo will listen to your weight loss goals and also ask many questions about your lifestyle. Then, the two of you will take a holistic approach to nonsurgical weight loss and examine parts of the body where you have excess fat.

Finally, Dr. Fiorillo will walk you through the CoolSculpting process, establishing a connection between the procedure and your weight loss goals.

Treatment Day

Dr. Fiorillo will not conclude the consultation until you have a complete idea as to what to expect when you come back for your cryolipolysis treatment.

  • Beginning: Depending on the amount of fat you want to lose and its location on your body, Dr. Fiorillo will use different applicator devices, and the time required for the procedure will vary.
  • Middle: Most CoolSculpting treatments take between one and three hours. During that time, most patients read, check email, surf the Web, or even take a nap.
  • End: Since there is no anesthesia and no downtime, many patients return to work right after their treatment is over. Residual side effects are usually mild and include redness, swelling, and soreness in the treated area.

Most patients begin seeing results after about three weeks, and the fat continues to drop off even two or three months later. Additionally, most patients find that one treatment is sufficient to meet or even exceed their weight loss goals.
